tonight i decide to give it a shot! thankfully, i had ALL the ingredients in my pantry -- so i was good to go! i am by NO MEANS a baker! after all, i'll try just about any recipe once, but usually end up tweaking it one way or another.
first off, it was time to cut the rhubarb. the recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups.
time to add some the brown sugar, egg, vanilla, etc.
so anyway, after everything was added it was time to add the rhubarb. the recipe also calls for walnuts, of course this is optional for those who don't like walnuts. luckily, i had 1 1/2 cups of chopped walnuts left...whew!
you know, this would have been the perfect recipe to bring down my kitchen aid stand mixer! oh well, as usual it sits in my pantry with some other gadgets gathering "dust" ...ops!oh well, so after everything has been combined. it's baking time!!
into the oven at 325 degrees for 1 hour....
an hour later, wholla...
oh, i forgot to mention the aroma was amazing!
of course, i couldn't wait to dig in and have a slice! ...AMAZING!!
here's the recipe i used. thanks again princess freckles for sharing this awesome recipe! i will definitely be making it again when we go up to the lake with my husband's family!
rhubarb bread
ingredients:
1 1/2 c diced raw rhubarb
1 1/2 c brown sugar
2/3 c. oil
1 egg slightly beaten
1 c. sour milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
pinch cinnamon
topping- 1/3 c. granulated sugar mixed with 1 Tbsp. melted butter.
directions:
mix brown sugar, oil, vanilla & egg together. Sift salt, soda, flour & cinnamon together. add dry ingredients alternately with milk to other mixture. fold in rhubarb and nuts. fill 2 lightly greased loaf pans 2/3 full. sprinkle with topping. bake at 325 for 1 hour.
...pretty simple! if PLD can do it, so can you!!
you know, looking back at my photos this should really be an episode of baking with williams-sonoma. everything i used was purchased over at williams-sonoma. love that store! yes, at one time i owned stock in it too! then the market went to hell and i got out! ha! ha!
let's see, i used the following items:
- my mixing bowl set
- measuring spoons/cups
- spatula
- flour canister [of which i have the canister set, plus the garlic holder, utensil holder, recipe holder and mixing bowls ---- only thing missing i believe is the cookie jar...ha! ha!]
- everyday flatware by eternum, the pattern is called chatelet [unfortunately, williams-sonoma has since discontinued carrying this pattern. however, i think it can still be special ordered?]
- plus, my belvedre everyday dishes in cornflower blue. [i also have another everyday pattern called brasserie in white. i registered this set when i got married 10 years ago. ]
oh well, that's a wrap! thanks for stopping by!
Bon Appétit!

That looks delicious!!
P.S. Just got your comments as I've been away from the blog. I was in TC for the 4th. My bf is from there and his parents still live there in the summer and fall so we stayed with them, but I have been to the Grand Traverse for brunch. I have heard the term "fudgies" haha! Gotta love the cherry festival ;)
I'm so glad you like the bread! Sur La Table is opening at Somerset South, and I can't wait! Its going to be right by Saks on the second floor. I'll finally have Williams Sonoma and Sur la Table in one mall! yay!
I will have to give it a try. Thanks
Always Bumby
