5 things you NEED to know...

hey there, hope your week is going well! i don't know about you but i am SO glad tomorrow is friday!

hopefully, "knock on wood" we don't get the 9 inches of snow the weather people have predicted! guess time will tell, if we get the snow or not! UGH, i don't know about you but i am SO done with WINTER! enough already, ha! ha! ha!

oh well, i was coming up with ideas to blog about when all of a sudden five things came to mind. so with that said, below are five things i thought you should know. ENJOY!!

FIRST....
if you love starbucks salted caramel hot chocolate you are going to LOVE seattle's best salted toffee! OMG!!!! YUM!!

SECOND...if you are a starbuck's gold card member like myself, you love it when you get that FREE drink in the mail after buying 15 drinks! seems like a pretty good deal, right?!?!?

well, a few days ago i got an email from seattle's best that i had earned a FREE drink! cool, did you know you only need to buy 5 drinks to get a FREE drink! compared to 15 drinks, seems like a better deal to me!

i am NOT sure if that is b/c i am a BORDERS REWARDS PLUS CARD MEMBER or just holding a BORDERS REWARDS card? you'll want to look into their reward program for sure.

all i know is i am going to switch over to seattle's best for now, LOL!

THIRD...have you heard about cocodot? maybe you read about it on a number of blogs? well, hautelook as an awesome COCODOT --- DEAL of the DAY over at hautelook! for $27 you can get 25 personalized prints and a one year online membership!

finally, the FIFTH thing you should know.... i am hosting a TRUE PREP book giveaway. if you haven't signed up for a chance to win a copy of TRUE PREP, click here.

one more thing, i just read the latest post over at surviving the stores. turns out next friday, march 4th chick-fil-a is giving away FREE medium order of waffle fries! all you need to do is become a fan of chick-fil-a on facebook for details! i don't know about you, but their waffle fries are the best! guess i know where i am heading next week, lol!

not your average sunday...

greetings!

it's so miserable outside, ugh! supposedly our forecast includes rain, sleet and eventually snow! sounds fabulous, NOT! it's a good day to just stay inside!

my husband ran over to borders and brought me back a small cocoa trio! YUM!

yes, that is a spode coaster! don't judge, ha! ha! ha!

it's days like today i long for scenes like this:

isn't this painting beautiful! i love it! this is one of my favorite oil paintings from jane mcfeely, an artist back home in grosse pointe, mi. mrs. mcfeely is such a talented artist! check out a close up of the detail of this painting..LOVE IT!
below is a closeup of another oil painting i own which she painted.
can't wait until next year for the junior league of detroit to host another designer show house, so i can buy another painting! at least i hope they have another show house!!!!

what do you think of the mat and frame i chose for the paintings? i had the paintings framed over at the great frame up. i am still looking for the lights to hang over the frame, just haven't found any that aren't a couple of hundred dollars! ha! ha! ha!

before i forget, don't forget to click here for my true prep book giveaway.

oh before i forget, our friend erin over at let the tide pull your dreams ashore recently blogged about wallets. you can view the post by clicking here.

anyway, she included a photo of a LV and gucci wallet. The wallets were in fabulous condition and i couldn't help but think of my husband's "poor" gucci wallet. yes, the one in the photo below: i bought this wallet for my husband back in '05. so i guess i shouldn't be so surprised! after all, he got a good 5 years use out of it! ha! ha! ha! but still, i wonder what i could sell it for on eBay? LOL!

have a great afternoon!

it's almost here....

ahhhhhh, nothing like home for the holidays!

hope you all have a fabulous christmas! we've already been to mass, had prime rib and crab for dinner and after a few stops over to a couple of friend's houses we are going to settle in and watch some movies!

however, christmas eve would not be complete without the annual reading of the night before christmas! so glad my parents bought two copies when we were young, one for me and one for my sister! ha! ha! my father asked me if i wanted to take my copy back to chicago...i don't think i am ready to give up that tradition quite yet! ha! ha!

speaking of traditions, did you have a favorite cup, glass or mug when you were a child? below my sister and my favorite mugs....check out the PINK and GREEN rims, ha! ha!

nothing like growing up in the 70's, LOL!!

well, before i sign off i wanted to share a few of my favorite childhood ornaments. there are others but these are the ones on my parents tree this christmas....enjoy!

those ornaments make me want to go to disney world! ha! ha!

oh well, below is another ornament. i know my parents used to have several of them, i wonder if this is the only one that has survived all these years?
have a wonderful christmas folks!

preppy humor, enjoy!!!

here's a little humor for all you preps out there, lol!! i came across this article last night and couldn't help but share it with y'all, hee! hee!

not sure, but doesn't that wall look pale pink? i could be wrong?!?!? luckily, the only time i "toured" the grosse pointe farms jail way back when i was an indian princess....so many years ago! ha! ha! anyone else ever an indian princess? oh, those were the days, ha! ha!

anyway, enjoy....

quoted directly from an article written by ammi white in the grosse pointe times, "It's appropriate that the preppiest of the Pointes, the Farms, has emblazoned each of the cells in its lockup with the emblem on every preppy's favorite article of clothing – and in pink and green, no less. "

...love it, only in GPF! ha! ha! ha!

you probably cant's see it, but the gator is even wearing boat shoes and an ascot with grosse pointe farms painted on it!

interested in reading the story, click here.

on another note, do you ever do random searches on twitter? it's amazing the stuff people tweet about, sheesh! last night i also did a random search for "grosse pointe" and below are two of my favorite tweets:

hilarious!

as for the second tweet, one word "TAXES" -- DUH, have you seen my tax bill!!!! ha! ha! ha!

okay, enough chatter about grosse pointe! it makes me a little homesick, luckily we'll be heading back there for christmas!

oh well, hope you enjoyed some preppy humor! ha! ha! ha!

have a great day!!!

so excited....

so excited, looks like santa gave us [okay, "me" since my husband really doesn't care about a subscription to the grosse pointe news, since we moved away a few years ago. ha! ha!] an early christmas present! how did he know i wanted subscription to the grosse pointe news? i haven't subscribed to the grosse pointe news in at least 2 years?!?!? so excited, i'm used to reading the online version every thursday, but the information is limited! it will be nice to have this in my mailbox every thursday for the next 52 week or so! YIPPEE!!!

CURIOUS, DO YOU STILL SUBSCRIBE TO YOUR HOMETOWN NEWSPAPER?

if you have been following my blog, you would know that i really don't want anything for christmas. pathetic, i know! ha! ha! after all, i am constantly shopping and treating myself to whatever i want, so for this subscription to my hometown newspaper to arrive is pretty awesome!

i wonder who bought us the subscription? hmmmmm, i have a few of guesses! ha! ha!

UPDATE: i opened up the gpnews to find out it was last thursday's issue? i should have known better than to think it was today's copy! ha! ha! ha!

speaking of hometown newspapers, what sections do you frequent? a few years ago when everyone was getting married it was the engagement section, then everyone started getting pregnant so it was the birth announcement section and now for some unknown reason i find myself checking out the obituaries...sheesh, what's up with that? ha! ha! then of course i check out the real estate section, but that's been pretty depressing for years!!!!

we still have our house in grosse pointe, but we have had it leased for the past 4 years. we bought during the height of the market and unfortunately our house has probably lost at least $125,000 worth of it's value [GULP!!!!] if we tried selling it today! totally sucks, but the man above has a plan for everyone so i know everything will work out in the end!

enough about the housing market, it turns me into debbie downer!

...so the boursin cheese and pretzel chips was a hit! i knew it would be, ha! ha! thanks to costco, i have 2 more things of boursin to share with friends and family over the holidays!
oh, i forgot to post this on sunday but did anyone who subscribes to the chicago tribune notice the $10 coupon from fannie may candies?!?!? just like last year, so of course i bought 3 more papers!!

unfortunately, $10 doesn't go very far over at fannie may candies. i am not a fan of fannie may, but FREE is FREE ---- and you know i am all about FREE, who wouldn't be - DUH!!!

so i bought some hot chocolate and gummy bears....OOP cost a mere .53 cents!! can't beat it, lol!! i will admit i love their "mint" and "pixie" hot chocolate, along with their ice cream! YUMMY!!! well, it's finally snowing out! we were supposed to get some snow last night and of course the weather guy was WRONG!!! ha! ha!

oh well, have a great night!

new leather boots, christmas traditions and much more!!

greetings, hope you are having a nice weekend!

unfortunately i have a horrible cold that won't go away, UGH!!! not to mention, i can barely breathe through my nose, UGH! hence the Jaye's kleenex box below, ha! ha!

anyway, i posted on my facebook page, but i decided the throw a pity party for myself and ordered the following leather boots over at lands end: i just hope they aren't too big! my feet are odd, some shoes i am a 8.5, others 9 and even 9.5 in others --what's up with that?!?!?

anyway, they were a really good deal! lands end has a discount code for 40% off the highest ticket item and FREE shipping...offer good thru 12/13!

i have never ordered online from lands end, how is their shipping? are they pretty fast? slow? standard shipping [which is FREE] is 4-7 days...i am hoping sooner than later! ha! ha! they are a part of my christmas present...so a long as they arrive before we head to grosse pointe for christmas!

speaking of christmas, what are some of your favorite childhood traditions?

let's see, some of my favorites include:

- annual breakfast with santa at the detroit yacht club

- visiting santa over at jacobson's in the village ...still miss shopping at jacobson's!!!

- on christmas eve we usually had prime rib dinner. followed by christmas eve mass, of which i always enjoyed listening to the church choir sing christmas songs! back home my father would ALWAYS read us the night before christmas.

speaking of the night before christmas, i can't believe i actually found a photo of the book that's been in my family for many years. i know my parents have two copies, one for myself and one for my sister. i have yet to claim my copy! ha! ha!

...to be a child again!

oh well, it's saturday night and i am home dealing with a horrible cold! JOY! JOY! JOY!

have a great night!

another fun shopping venture...

sorry, it's been over a week since my last post!

anyway, i am in grosse pointe for the weekend. it's so great to be back in michigan, even if only for the weekend!

today my mom and i went shopping at Somerset and had lunch over at Brio...yummy!! it's so much fun shopping with my mom! too bad i don't have a chance to do it often! we stopped at louis vuitton, i was so set on purchasing the neverfull gm but of course -- my luck it was SOLD OUT! bummer!! either i pick it up when i am back in chicago or wait until i am in michigan next. oh well....

so sur la table "finally" opened at somerset last week! it's about time!! they had a pretty exciting promo going on....spend $50, get a cookbook for FREE -- it's a $35.00 value alone! so of course each of us ended up with a cookbook! hee! hee!

i ended up picking up a couple of things. like i really need ANYTHING else!! ha! ha!

let's see... i got 2 white serving pieces and a cookbook from sur la table, plus a can opener...but who needs to see photos of my can opener right...LOL! plus, a lilly pulitzer umbrella and set of shift magnets. i really wanted a burberry umbrella to replace my current burberry umbrella, but they didn't have what i wanted...so i settled for a little pulitzer umbrella instead and saved about $125 in the process...LOL!!we even had enough time to stop over in birmingham. seeing that ribbons is gone, i had to visit my other favorite store in brimingham called stacey leuilette. i could do some serious damage at that place!! HA! HA!

i couldn't help but purchase this adorable key fob. don't you love it!! it was a steal at $25!! guess we all know where i stand politically! LOL! i also picked up a mariposa sticky note set too. it will be perfect for my desk!

oh yeah, in case you were still looking for your next lilly pulizter bicycle...it's STILL for sale!

oh well, it was a beautiful day and below are couple of other photos from my quick visit to birmingham...

below are photos of two buildings, of which one of them was the location of my grandparents art gallery. i always thought my grandparents had their art gallery at the one that the one below, but my mom was thinking it was where TOAST is today? who knows...my mom was a teenager when they had the art gallery.

oh well, then tonight i went out for sushi with a good friend!

tomorrow is going to be another fun filled weekend! hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

take care,

~ PLD
